Overview of Entering Molar Concentration in OLI Studio
In OLI Studio, users often need to input chemical quantities in various units. For applications requiring the use of molar concentration (moles per liter, mol/L), the software offers a customizable option to adjust the inflow units for streams. This functionality allows users to switch from units, such as mass percentage, to molar concentration, either on an individual stream basis or as a default setting for all future streams. The below guide uses OLI Studio version 12.0.0.11.
Step-by-Step Guide to Enter Molar Concentration
To enter molar concentration (moles per liter of solution), please follow these steps:
- In the stream you are working with, click the blue hyperlink for "Inflows" (currently set to "mass %," as shown in the screenshot below).
- This will open the Edit Units dialog box. From the Inflows drop-down menu under Inflow Variables, select "Molar Concentration" and press OK.
Now, your inflows will be entered in mol/L.
Setting Molar Concentration as the Default
If you would like to set molar concentration as the default for all future streams, you can do so at the parent stream level:
- Select the Edit Units button at the parent stream level.
- In the Default Units for Document dialog, press Customize.
- Choose "Molar Conc." from the right-hand drop-down menu and press OK.
Going forward, newly added streams will use molar concentration for inflows by default.
Conclusion
The ability to set molar concentration as the input unit in OLI Studio offers flexibility for users dealing with different chemical streams. By following the steps outlined above, users can seamlessly switch between unit types or set molar concentration as the default, streamlining their workflows for future projects.
