The Basics
What is "Named Users?"
Named Users is OLI’s newest licensing model for individual users. Instead of using “softkeys,” access is authenticated by logging in with an email and password. This eliminates the hassle of transferring licenses between computers.
With this model, a Client Administrator (hereafter shortened to "Client Admin") can easily add or remove software permissions for team members.
How does Named Users work?
New users receive an automated email to set up their password.
When they launch the software for the first time, they log in with their email and password.
Existing OLI users transitioning to Named Users will be prompted to log in after updating their serial number with one provided by OLI.
Licensing
Is one Named User the same as one Individual License?
Yes. One Named User equals one individual license and is tied to a single person. Sharing accounts is prohibited and violates the software lease agreement.
How does Named Users compare to a Network License?
Named Users: One license = one person.
Network License: A pool of licenses is shared across your organization. Any number of people can have access, but only a set number can use the software concurrently.
What about serial numbers?
All users included under the contract share a single serial number, valid for the entire contract term.
Functionality
Can I log in to the software on multiple PCs?
Yes, but not simultaneously. Logging in on a new machine will log you out of the previous one.
Do I need to log in every time I open the software?
No. Once you log in after a serial number update, your credentials are stored locally. The software automatically checks authorization in the background.
Can I use the software without internet access?
Yes. You can work offline for up to 7 consecutive days. After that, an internet connection is required to refresh your authorization.
Can a new user try the software without using a Named User seat?
No. If all seats are assigned, you must reassign one from an existing user before giving access to a new user.
How do I add or remove a user? How do I assign or unassign software permissions?
The designated Client Admin manages these tasks through our online portal, AppManager. See the Named Users Administration section of our Support Center knowledge base for detailed instructions.
I was designated as the Client Admin for my organization when I shouldn't have been. How do I transfer this to someone else?
See the instructions in this article to transfer the Client Admin role to another user.
Privacy
How is authentication handled?
Authentication and authorization are managed using OLI's secure authentication servers, based on OAuth (Open Authorization), which returns user-specific access rights within the OLI Software.
Where is the login data processed?
All login verification is processed on OLI-managed authentication servers.
Does OLI store usage data? What information is collected?
To ensure licensing and improve service reliability, OLI records limited session information:
- Process ID - A temporary identifier for your active software session.
- Login Time - When the application was launched.
- Application Name - The name and version of the OLI product used.
- Account ID - The customer account identifier associated with your license.
- Serial Number - The license number used for activation.
- Security Products - License options or features enabled during the session.
- Username - The user ID used to log in.
- Computer ID - A hashed identifier based on your computer's name. This number cannot be reversed and cannot reveal your actual computer name.
All data is stored securely on OLI servers and used only for authentication, licensing, and service integrity.
No personal files, computer details, or any additional information are collected.
